EFFECTS OF THE PRESENT-DAY EXCIPIENTS ON THE PHARMACEUTICAL AVAILABILITY OF SOFT DOSAGE FORMS

Introduction. Improvement of dosage forms within one nosological entity is aimed at increasing the pharmaceutical availability of their active ingredients and the degree of prolongation and the multi-purpose usage. In dentistry, the treatment of periodontitis requires drugs having pronounced long-term, regenerative, immunomodulatory, anesthetic, and antibacterial effects. Objective: to investigate the effects of dental ointment excipients on the long-term activity of an agent and on the degree of release of active ingredients. Material and methods. The investigation objects were 6 experimental samples of dental ointments containing excipients of varying composition. Pharmaceutical availability was determined by thin-layer chromatography. Results. The solubilizer lutrol was ascertained to have a positive effect on the release of the drug’s active ingredient. Its optimal amount was determined from the rheological and technological characteristics of the ointment. The absence of Dimethicone-1000 in the agent was found to result in decreased release of its active ingredients. The excipient Kollidon CL-M was investigated in vitro for its effect on the release of an active ingredient from the ointment base. Conclusion. The optimal concentrations of excipients were determined in the soft dosage forms with an effect of prolongation for the treatment of periodontitis.
