IMPACT OF GRINDING GRADE ON TANNIN CONTENTS IN MEDICINAL PLANT PREPARATIONS AND MEDICINAL RAW MATERIALS

Introduction. Grinding grade is one of the important indicators of the quality of medicinal plant raw materials (MPRM) and medicinal plant preparations. This can affect the extraction of active ingredients. Objective: to investigate the impact of MPRM grinding grade on the extraction of tannins and their content in infusions; to quantify tannins in MPRM and medicinal plant preparations. Material and methods. The object of the investigation was oak bark. The investigation consisted of 2 stages: 1) to study the influence of particle size on the content of tannins; 2) to study this on the extraction of tannins. Results. The grinding grade of MPRM and medicinal plant preparations was found to affect the content and extraction of tannins and their quantitative determination. Conclusion. To amend grinding standards for MPRM may result in a lower yield of tannins during extraction and decrease the therapeutic efficacy of medicinal plant preparations. Heavy grinding should be avoided if the MPRM containing tannins is stored. When determining the content of tannins in MPRM and medicinal plant preparations, it is necessary to strictly follow the grinding standards specified in each specific procedure.
