ntroduction. Hawkweed oxtongue (Picris hieracioides L.) is widespread in the middle belt of the European part of Russia. It contains various groups of biologically active substances; nitrogen-containing compounds, polysaccharides, tannins, terpenoids, and sesquiterpene lactones. The plant is widely used in folk medicine. There are no data from morphological and anatomical studies of oxtongue raw materials in the literature. Objective: to develop the characteristics of the identity of hawkweed oxtongue herb and to identify the morphological and microdiagnostic signs of its raw material. Material and methods. The investigation object was fresh and dried hawkweed oxtongue herb stored in the Kursk and Orel Regions in 2016–2017. Its morphological signs were examined using a binocular loupe. The anatomical structure of various hawkweed oxtongue organs was analyzed by making temporary preparations and using a Micromed C1 LED microscope with a digital nozzle. Results. The morphological and microdiagnostic signs of hawkweed oxtongue herb were established. Its main microdiagnostic signs were simple hairs of different structure and latex tubes. Conclusion. The investigation has provided new data on the morphological and anatomical structure of hawkweed oxtongue herb.
