Introduction. Waste wood is not only woody greens, but also underground organs (the root system) of Norway spruce (Picea abies), the chemical composition of which has not been insufficiently studied. Of interest are investigations of the elemental composition of dry spruce root extracts obtained in the laboratory. Objective: to investigate the elemental composition of the roots and dry aqueous and ethanol extracts of Norway spruce. Material and methods. The raw material for the investigation was Norway spruce roots collected at the felling site of a green moss spruce forest in the Ilyinsk District of the Perm Territory. Dry spruce root extracts were obtained by extraction of the raw material by water and 70% ethanol. The qualitative and quantitative compositions of elements were determined using a Thermo Scientific QUANT’X X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Results. The Norway spruce roots showed a preponderance of potassium and calcium among the macroelements, iron and silicon among the trace elements, and titanium and barium among the ultramicroelements. The investigation of the elemental composition of spruce root extracts indicated that the dry aqueous extract was of the most interest, as it is most rich in elements, such as zinc, silicon, manganese, and iron. Conclusion. The underground organs of Norway spruce can serve as a source of macro-, micro-, and ultramicroelements.
