ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF AQUEOUS EXTRACTS FROM THE UNDERGROUND ORGANS OF SOME SPECIES OF CINQUEFOIL (POTENTILLA)

The antimicrobial activity of aqueous extracts from the underground organs of 4 representatives of the genus Potentilla: tormentil cinquefoil (Potentilla erecta L.), white cinquefoil (Potentilla alba L.), silver cinquefoil (Potentilla argentea L.), and rough-fruited cinquefoil (Potentilla recta L.) was investigated. Bacillus cereus, Candida albicans, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus were used as test cultures. The examined cinquefoil species were found to display antimicrobial activity against each test culture. The broadest-spectrum antimicrobial activity was displayed by decoction from the rhizomes and roots of white cinquefoil among the representatives of the genus Potentilla.
