Brown alga (Phaeophyta) lipids that have a broad range of pharmacological activity are promising compounds. Two brown alga species, such as Fucus vesiculosus and Ascophyllum nodosum, are most common in the seas of the North-Western Region. Instrumental high-performance thinlayer chromatography was performed to comparatively investigate lipid extracts from these 2 alga species gathered in different places. The lipid extracts from Barents Sea Fucus vesiculosus L. and those from White and Barents Seas Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) were shown to be virtually identical to the qualitative and quantitative content of phospholipids, the major groups of neutral lipids, fatty acids, and pigments. The extracts of Fucus vesiculosus L. gathered in the White and Barents Seas have the greatest differences in this set of characteristics.
