Introduction. Organoleptic characteristics are one of the main parameters determining the success of drug therapy in geriatrics and pediatrics. The specific odor, taste, and unpleasant appearance of a drug can cause its intolerance, avoiding its application. The most recognized and promising way to correct the organoleptic characteristics of drugs is the use of corrigents. Objective: to assess the organoleptic characteristics of healing Undory clay and the possibility of its application as an oral comfortable enterosorbent. Material and methods. The investigation objects were healing Undory clay, citrus pectin, and citric acid. Their organoleptic characteristics were assessed by 50 voluntary tasters. The primary taste of the clay was determined using the method of numerical indices. The degree of taste (presence, magnitude, and intensity) was scored from 0 to 5. The masking value of a corrigent was established by a threshold concentration method. Results. Most (80%) tasters reported the presence of the primary taste of the clay and characterized it as neutral and unnoticeable. All (100%) the study participants recommended that the taste be modified. The loss of the primary taste of the healing Undory clay occurred in the mixture with pectin added from 2.3% or in that with citric acid added at 0.1%. The masking value and masking potential of citric acid were found to be higher than those of citrus pectin, which makes it possible to use it in small quantities. The taste indices were derived for pectin (61.0) and citric acid (124.0). Conclusion. Pectin (17.7%) and citric acid (1.8%) may be used as taste corrigents for healing Undory clay powder. When added, the latter mixture takes on a discreet acidulous taste. The optimal composition of healing Undory clay powders is determined in terms of their organoleptic characteristics.
