Based on the results of information and analytical studies, the perspectives for the use of medicinal plants in the development of sedative drugs are substantiated. Medicinal plant raw materials of such plants as motherwort, valerian, peppermint, hops, lemon balm, peony, passionflower, oregano, thyme, tutsan, cyanoba, and lavender are widely used in the collections of All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. These plants are often the basis for already on the market and the newly patented monocomponent and complex sedative herbal remedies. The mechanisms of sedative activity of medicinal plants are considered, the most adequate pathophysiological model of incorporating plant tranquilizers into the immuno-endocrine system of regulating the homeostasis of the body is proposed.
