PHYTOTHERAPY DURING PREGNANCY: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

Almost 80% of pregnant women suffer from various diseases and syndromes in the first 3 months of pregnancy and later. Every two pregnant women are diagnosed as having one or another chronic disease, which poses a risk of miscarriage or pregnancy termination and also threatens the health of a mother and her future child. Herbal medicines can be effectively used in pregnancy accompanied by various somatic diseases. The herbal remedies are virtually free of side effects and may be prescribed for long-term self-treatment and used in combination with other drugs. However, these remedies should be used with caution during pregnancy. Further studies of herbal medicines are required to confirm their efficacy and safety during pregnancy.
