Introduction. Yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis) is distributed throughout the European part of Russia. This herb is part of Nervine Tea Three and it is also used in homeopathy. The plant has a complex composition of biologically active substances, which accounts for its pharmacological activity. Objective. To investigate the composition and content of flavonoids in yellow sweet clover herb. Material and methods. The investigation was concerned with the dried yellow sweet clover herb harvested in the Moscow Region in the summer of 2014. This used Agilent 1100 HPLC with a spectrophotometric diode-array detector. Results. The presence of flavonoids in the yellow sweet clover herb was confirmed by qualitative reactions using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The raw material contains 1.17% of the amount of flavonoids represented by 11 compounds, mainly as glycosides, such as kaempferol and quercetin. Conclusion. The content and composition of flavonoids were established in the yellow sweet clover herb grown in the Moscow Region.
