Introduction. Plants of the genus Melampyrum are widespread in the central part of European Russia. Flavonoids and iridoids are major groups of biologically active substances. It is well known that only iridoids are present in Melampyrum argycomun. Objective: to investigate the qualitative and quantitative composition of flavonoids in the Melampyrum argycomun herb. Material and methods. The investigation object was air-dried Melampyrum argycomun herb. The qualitative composition of flavonoids was examined by paper chromatography and thin-layer chromatography; their content was determined spectrophotometrically. Results. The Melampyrum argycomun herb was found to contain 6 flavonoid compounds; luteolin, apigenin, cynaroside, and cosmossiin were identified. A spectrophotometric procedure for the quantitative determination of the amount of flavonoids was developed and used to analyze raw materials. The total content of flavonoids calculated with reference to cynaroside in the Melampyrum argycomun herb ranged from 2.52 to 3.03%. Conclusion. The qualitative composition and quantitative content of flavonoids were determined in the herb of Melampyrum argycomun growing in the Kursk Region
