DETERMINATION OF 6-GINGEROL IN THE PRESENCE OF A SOLUBILIZER

Introduction. The major component of ginger (Zingiber officinale) is 6-gingerol. Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is used for its determination. The dosage form with dry ginger extract contains a solubilizer to increase the release of phenolic compounds. Objective: to investigate whether 6-gingerol can be quantified in dry ginger extract in the presence of an excipient, such as a solubilizer. Material and methods. The investigation objects were dry ginger extract, a mixture of granulated extract and a solubilizer that is a polymer matrix consisting of polyethylene glycol 6000, vinylcaprolactam, and vinyl acetate. The content of 6-gingerol was determined by reversed-phase HPLC. Results. The presence of the solubilizer in a sample does not interfere with the determination of the major component 6-gingerol and appears only as a change in minor peaks with a retention time of 11 min to 12 min 30 sec. Conclusion. The content of 6-gingerol in the presence of a solubilizer can be determined by reversed-phase HPLC in the dosage forms that contain dry ginger extract.
