A METHOD FOR DISPERSION ANALYSIS IN THE CHOICE OF EXCIPIENTS FOR MODIFIED-RELEASE LEVOFLOXACIN TABLETS

Levofloxacin belonging to a group of newest-generation fluoroquinolones is regarded as a serious alternative to highly active parenteral broad-spectrum antibiotics. The developments of the optimal composition of a levofloxacin formulation need to be investigated for the influence of different factors on the technological characteristics of tablet mass and tablets in conjunction with their parametric estimating. The paper gives the results of dispersion analysis that could substantiate the choice of excipients and a distintegrant when designing the optimal composition of a formulation containing levofloxacin as an active ingredient. The technological characteristics (strength, abrasion, disintegration) of levofloxacin tablets have been examined.
