STABILITY OF ST. JOHN’S WORT (HYPERICUM PERFORATUM L.) EXTRACTS IN THE COMPONENTS OF OINTMENT BASES

An accelerated ageing method was used to investigate the stability of St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) extracts in different components of ointment bases. The extracts were prepared by two-phase extraction with the minimum amount of polar phase and by polyextraction with a number of organic solvents of increasing polarity, followed by conversion of extractive substances to the components of ointment bases. Castor oil, corn oil, and petrolatum, polyethylene glycol alloy, and a diphilic composition of the components were studied as ingredients of ointment bases. The stability of the extracts was estimated by changes in the content of biologically active substances (BAS), such as anthracene derivatives, flavonoids, and chlorophylls, was estimated. The choice of a procedure to prepare an ointment base and its composition ensuring the highest stability of targeted St. John’s wort BAS groups has been experimentally substantiated.
