To have objective information on the price situation on the Russian pharmaceutical market requires an in-depth price level and trend analysis based on an extended range of drugs and a comparative analysis of price changes in the drugs that are included and not included in the list of essential medicines, in Russian and imported prescription and over-the-counter drugs, and in the medicines that belong to different pharmacotherapeutic groups of the ATC classification and that are in different price brackets. A differential analysis of drug price level and trends will be able to make a more valid judgement on the efficiency of regulatory policy on the pharmaceutical market. The objective information of price trends on the pharmaceutical market is of importance for commercial pharmaceutical organizations since this factor becomes a guarantee of their commercial success and, at the same time, adequate social function to provide drugs. The comparative differential analysis of price changes in the commercial and retail sectors of the pharmaceutical markets of Russia and Saint Petersburg revealed that these sectors showed substantial differences in drug price level and trends.
