Natural fatty oils are extensively used in medicine. Their quality and safety are therefore of great importance. The additional criterion for assessing their quality and safety is the determination of foreign fatty acids. Informational and analytical studies have been conducted to choose approaches to determining and standardizing this type of impurities in the pharmacopeias of different countries. The Russian State Pharmacopeia, editions X and XI, contained no requirements for the quantification of foreign fatty oils in fatty oils. For these purposes, many foreign pharmacopeias lay down qualitative reactions and gas chromatography. Based on the findings, the authors have drawn up the draft general pharmacopeial article «ThinLayer Chromatographic Determination of Foreign Fatty Oils in Fatty Oils» for the 13th Edition of the State Pharmacopeia of the Russian Federation.
