Impaired endothelial function and microcirculation in diabetes mellitus considerably slow down a wound healing process. Flavonoids having antioxidant activity improve endothelial function and stimulate angiogenesis. The wound-healing properties of an extract from French marigold flowers were determined in rats with experimental diabetes mellitus. The administration of the extract was shown to significantly accelerate a wound healing process in the animals with diabetes mellitus. A group of animals treated with French marigold extract showed a substantial reduction in the wound surface following 7 days and the wound size did not differ from that in the non-diabetes group after 21 days.
