Introduction. Lady’s thumb (Polygonum persicaria) contains biologically active substances, predominantly phenolic compounds, including hydroxycinnamic acids. The latter make a considerable contribution to the therapeutic effect of combined herbal medicines due to their diverse biological activities. Objective: to investigate the profile of hydroxycinnamic acids in the lady’s thumb herb. Material and methods. The investigation object was lady’s thumb herb grown in the Voronezh Region. The composition and content of hydroxycinnamic acids were determined by spectrometry by means of a SP 2000-01 device and by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with UV diode array and time-of-flight mass spectrometric detection (HPLC-UV/MS) using an Agilent 1100 system. Results. The UV spectrum of extraction from lady’s thumb herb showed the maximum absorption as a shoulder at 320-350 nm and had spectral characteristics similar to those of chlorogenic acid. The raw material content of a sum of hydroxycinnamic acids calculated with reference to chlorogenic acid was 1.95%. HPLC-UV/MS revealed that lady’s thumb herb contained 7 hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives; 2 compounds were identified as chlorogenic and cryptochlorogenic acids. Conclusion. The profile and content of hydroxycinnamic acids in the herb of lady’s thumb grown in the Voronezh Region have been established, which is represented by 7 compounds.
