BASE-FORMING SUBSTANCES IN THE TECHNOLOGY OF SOFT FORMULATIONS

Creams are applied to treat injuries of the skin, which do not affect its deep layers. There is evidence for the use of these formulations for the treatment of different dermatitides and first-degree burns and for the final stage of wound healing. In different skin injuries, it is important to choose not only active ingredients, but also a base (an emulsifier, a fat phase, and a plasticizer) in the cream. The cream base can exert a significant effect on the release of active ingredients ant itself has these or those properties (lubrication, moistening, etc.). The modern-day manufacture of creams uses both long-known and novel emulsifiers; particular emphasis is laid on their effect on the skin, for example, gum formation. Manufacturing technology for oil-in-water and multiple emulsions is progressing; novel fat phases with improved technological and organoleptic properties, which are obtained by chemical modification of different oils, are emerging. Thus, a range of cream bases is being extended, hence providing a possibility to apply an individual approach to treating each skin disease.
